Depeche Mode Announces Release of Mexico Tour Movie
Depeche Mode will bring the electricity of their acclaimed Memento Mori tour to the blue screen. The legendary synth-rock band has announced the release of “Depeche Mode: M,” a full-length concert documentary. The film will capture the energy and emotional depth of their three sold-out performances in Mexico City last September.
Directed by celebrated Mexican filmmaker Fernando Frías (I’m No Longer Here, Don’t Expect Anyone to Believe Me), M will come out later this year and promises to offer more than just a live show experience. The film is described as “expressive and dynamic,” presenting a visually striking and emotionally charged journey. Shown through the eyes of nearly 200,000 devoted fans, the movie explores the enduring legacy of Depeche Mode. Meanwhile, it serves as a tribute to the unbreakable bond between music, culture, and the human spirit.
Depeche Mode and Latin Theme
Shot during the band’s performances at Mexico City’s iconic Foro Sol Stadium, “Depeche Mode: M” also delves into the themes of their 15th studio album, “Memento Mori.” Latin for “remember you must die.” The film resembles the album’s meditations on mortality and the profound cultural relationship to death embedded in Mexican traditions. In this way, crafting an experience that is both deeply personal and universally resonant.
Behind the scenes, the project includes an impressive production team, Columbia Records, Anonymous Content, and REDRUM, with global distribution handled by Sony Music Vision.
The “Memento Mori” tour marked a triumphant chapter in Depeche Mode’s career. Counting nearly $125 million in ticket sales and over 910,000 fans during concerts. Also, with 63 shows, the tour ranked No. 9 among Billboard’s top-grossing rock tours of 2024. It was also the band’s first tour since the passing of founding member Andy Fletcher in 2022—a powerful comeback that was as much a celebration of life as it was a memorial.

Despite the tour’s overwhelming success, new music isn’t immediately on the horizon. Frontman Dave Gahan recently shared that while he and longtime bandmate Martin Gore remain close, creative plans are currently on pause.
“Martin and I have talked. We actually saw each other recently, and it was really nice,” Gahan told the press in December. “We spent some time in Italy where Anton Corbijn and his wife were renewing their wedding vows… I did ask Martin if he’d been writing, and he was like, ‘Nah!’ That’s normal – especially when you’ve worked intensely for a couple of years. It takes a while. Wait and see. I wouldn’t rule out us getting together at some point, but it’s not on the cards at this point.”
For now, fans can anticipate Depeche Mode: M as a powerful and poetic time capsule of a band whose music continues to evolve while staying timeless. A celebration of art, legacy, and connection, the film promises to be as unforgettable as the performances it chronicles.
