Anitta Drops Release Date and New Single “Double Team” for Upcoming Album ‘Funk Generation’

Brazilian superstar Anitta has unveiled details surrounding her hotly anticipated sixth studio album, Funk Generation.

The record arrives on April 26th via her new label, Republic Records, in partnership with Universal Music Latin Entertainment. Leading the charge is the fiery new single “Double Team,” featuring Puerto Rican rapper Brray and Spanish singer Bad Gyal.

Funk Generation is an album where I celebrate my roots,” Anitta declares. “It’s where I express the power of Rio de Janeiro’s funk in every track, with its unique, danceable, and sensual beats. This rhythm was born in the favelas, where I grew up. It embodies resistance and artistic expression within every community.”

Anitta takes pride in championing a genre often unfairly stigmatized within Brazil, while simultaneously achieving global recognition. “I’m proud to work on a project about a genre that’s gaining traction worldwide,” she says. “The album features key collaborations that help tell this story. I’ve been deeply involved in every step of the production and visual direction, achieving the exact result I envisioned.”

Funk Generation follows the August 2023 release of the EP Funk Generation: A Favela Love Story. Anitta’s departure from Warner Music Group in April 2023 made headlines, with the artist famously stating she’d “auction off my organs” to escape the contract. Signed with the label for over a decade, she serves as a cautionary tale for young artists, emphasizing the importance of understanding legal documents.

Anitta has also hinted at potentially ending her singing career within the next five years. In a Billboard interview following her 2023 Grammy nomination for Best New Artist, she expressed her desire to explore new avenues, potentially venturing into acting.
