Billy Joel Unveils Anticipated Comeback Single “Turn The Lights Back On” After Decades
Legendary musician Billy Joel is set to make a remarkable return with his first solo single in decades, titled “Turn The Lights Back“. This eagerly awaited release marks Joel’s first solo effort since 2007, following a hiatus that stretches back to 1993.
Scheduled for release on February 1 via Columbia, Turn The Lights Back On will be accessible across all major streaming platforms, accompanied by a special limited-edition 7” vinyl available for pre-order. The song, co-written by Joel alongside Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer Freddy Wexler—who also took charge of production—features contributions from Arthur Bacon and Wayne Hector (known for their work with Nicki Minaj and One Direction).
Joel has been dropping hints about his return to the music scene for the past month. Using the popular platform TikTok, he engaged with fans, discussing his excitement for new music. In a recent TikTok video, Joel shared, “I have good news, I have bad news. I’ll give you the bad news first. We don’t have anything new to play for you. The good news is you don’t have to sit through something you have no idea what it is! Although… we got a little something we’re working on you might hear sometime.”
A lyric video accompanying the single will be available on Joel’s official YouTube channel, providing a visual element to complement the much-anticipated track.
Joel further stoked anticipation by updating his Spotify canvas and Facebook header photo with the phrase: “Did I wait too long…..”. According to a press release, this phrase is a direct lyric from the upcoming single, adding an intriguing layer to the pre-release excitement.
In 2023, Joel declared the conclusion of his decade-long monthly concert residency at Madison Square Garden, culminating in July 2024. The final show will mark the 104th performance of the residency and Joel’s 150th overall at the iconic venue.
Looking ahead, 2024 promises to be a dynamic year for Billy Joel, featuring a headline stadium performance in Cardiff, the sole European show of the year. Joined by support act Chris Isaak, this event is already generating immense interest. Additionally, Joel will embark on a North American tour alongside the legendary Stevie Nicks and Sting, building on the success of their co-headlining tour in 2023. As the music world eagerly awaits the release of “Turn The Lights Back On”, Billy Joel is poised to reclaim his position as a force to be reckoned with in the industry.
