Chappell Roan Reveals The Release Date of The New Song
Chappell Roan is finally taking “The Subway” above ground.
After more than a year of teasing, the breakout pop star has officially confirmed its release:
So, “The Subway” arrives July 31 at 8 pm EST. The announcement came via Instagram on Monday (July 28). It came accompanied by the song’s striking cover art: a dramatic shot of Roan buried under cascades of her signature red hair. Hence, it is a visual nod to the theatrical flair fans have come to expect.
Originally debuted during her 2024 Governors Ball performance, where Roan famously took the stage in full Statue of Liberty regalia. “The Subway” has since become a staple in her live shows, with fans clamoring for an official release.
A few weeks ago, eagle-eyed fans spotted the Missouri-born artist filming what appeared to be the track’s music video in New York City. True to form, the visuals were as extra as ever. So, fans saw Chappell Roan sporting Rapunzel-length hair, perched on a fire escape. What is more, she was clinging to the back of a taxi cab.
Chappell Roan Builds on Her 2024 Success
The upcoming single follows the success of “The Giver.” Fans should know that the song climbed to No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this year. Further on, the 2024 viral anthem “Good Luck, Babe!” helped cement Roan’s status as one of pop’s most fearless and captivating new voices.
Even with “The Subway” announcement, a full-length follow-up to 2023’s “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess” may still be a ways off. Just days before announcing the single’s release date, Roan revealed a series of intimate pop-up shows in New York City, Kansas City, and Pasadena. The singer explained her desire to give fans something special “before going away to write the next album.”
So, Chappell Roan isn’t just giving fans a long-awaited track. She’s further solidifying her status as the pop star redefining what it means to wear your heart, and your hair, on your sleeve.
