Florence + The Machine Hint at a New Project

Florence + The Machine have sparked a whirlwind of speculation after posting a cryptic series of images to Instagram. The Ghot music legends hint that new music, or something even bigger, may be on the horizon.

The carousel, shared by frontwoman Florence Welch, features a surreal blend of imagery and handwritten notes. Thus it weaves together themes of “witchcraft, folk horror, mysticism, magic, poetry [and] insanity.” One slide shows a whiteboard scrawled with the phrase “You can have it all.” After which, it is followed by an evocative checklist. “Clarity, power, purpose, vocals, space, dynamics, beauty.” Tucked beneath the list is a curious phrase that’s had fans scratching their heads. “Swans vs Adele.”

Florence + The Machine And Teasing New Project

Also included in the post is a snapshot of Welch in the studio with Mark Bowen of IDLES. Thus, it serves as an unexpected but thrilling pairing for fans of both artists. Another image shows a moody sketch stamped with the word October in Gothic blue lettering. In this way, further fueling theories that something significant could be arriving later this year. The caption? Just three words: “Toil and trouble.”

Among the carousel is a reference to “Unreal City.” Thus, hinting at a possibly a lyric, a track title, or even the name of an upcoming project. A copy of Simon Critchley’s “On Mysticism” also makes an appearance. Making a nod that seems in line with Florence’s ever-growing fascination with the metaphysical and the poetic.

The update has stirred an online frenzy, with fans on Reddit theorizing that October points to a release date for a new album. Thus, making the sixth album for Florence+The Machine and their first since 2022’s “Dance Fever.” Others have zeroed in on Welch’s updated Instagram bio. “I get on stage, and I call her by her first name,” as a potential lyric from a new song.

Theories of New Projects From The Band

Adding to the intrigue, Glass Animals dropped into the comments with a simple but telling “omggggg.” It’s not the first time the two artists have crossed paths. Glass Animals’ Dave Bayley co-produced “Dance Fever.”

If a new album is indeed in the works, it would arrive after a string of milestone moments for Florence + The Machine. Earlier this year, the band celebrated the 10th anniversary of “How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful.” Their chart-topping third record and the follow-up to 2009’s “Lungs” and 2011’s “Ceremonials.” They also marked 15 years of “Lungs” with a special orchestral performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Outside the band’s own catalogue, Welch has continued to make powerful appearances across the music world. She performed in Florida!!! with Taylor Swift during the final night of the “Eras” Tour’s European leg at Wembley. Also, she recently joined Sampha on Everything Is Recorded’s Never Felt Better. Just last month, she surprised Glastonbury by joining The Maccabees for their Park Stage headline set. They performed “Love You Better” and a rousing rendition of “Dog Days Are Over.”

While nothing is confirmed just yet, all signs point toward something brewing in Florence’s coven. And if the latest tease is any indication, it’s going to be something spellbinding.
