Kesha Takes on Killers in Thrilling and Action-Packed ‘Joyride’ Music Video

Kesha’s latest music video for her single “Joyride” is nothing short of a cinematic thrill ride. Released on Wednesday (Nov. 20), the video presents an action-packed storyline with the singer on the run from a gang of quirky, yet deadly, assassins. Packed with adrenaline-fueled sequences, “Joyride” is co-directed by Kesha alongside Laura Gorun, Dimitri Basil, and Cooper Roussel. The visual pays homage to Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill series, with Kesha embodying a fiery protagonist in a red leather outfit, channeling a rebellious spirit.

The video begins with a clever narrative twist, referencing Kesha’s tumultuous history with her former producer and label boss Dr. Luke. A voiceover announces that Kesha is “set to be released after nine years of wrongful imprisonment” due to new evidence overturning her conviction. However, the focus quickly shifts to the high-energy action as Kesha finds herself in a relentless chase across a desert highway. Her escape unfolds in a vintage Jaguar convertible while a helicopter rains bullets from above.

In a playful nod to Tarantino’s signature style, the video features bold fonts and colorful characters, including a lineup of hilariously named assassins such as Yippie & the Kiyays, Sadie the Stabber & the Crazyboys, and Rowdy Ricky & the Red Flags. Among them, the towering Derk Delusional stands out as her ultimate foe. Despite their efforts, the gang’s attempts to catch Kesha fail as she navigates the chaos with daring stunts and unwavering confidence.

The video’s action is underscored by the infectious rhythm of Joyride,” a Zhone-produced track that dropped on July 4. Kesha delivers biting lyrics like, “Are you a man? / Cuz I’m a b—h / I’m already rich,” with a mix of attitude and humor that perfectly complements the visual’s energy. The chase ends with Kesha striking fearless poses atop her car, only to speed toward a dramatic showdown with Derk, shotgun in hand. The clip ends with a teaser for her upcoming single “Delusional,” set to release on Nov. 29.

“Joyride” marks a new chapter for Kesha as the first single released under her independent label, Kesha Records. This milestone follows her legal battles with Dr. Luke, which concluded in 2023 after nearly a decade of disputes. Now free to steer her creative path, Kesha uses “Joyride” to showcase her bold artistry and resilience, blending humor, empowerment, and action into a standout music video.
