Les Savy Fav Makes Triumphant Return with “Legendary Tippers” After 14-Year Hiatus

Indie rock veterans Les Savy Fav have made a resounding comeback with their first new song in 14 years, “Legendary Tippers“.

The eccentric post-punk-infused track marks a significant return for the band, whose last release was their 2010 album Root For Ruin. Described by vocalist Tim Harrington as having “offhanded virtuoso” guitars, the song showcases a manic energy reminiscent of the band’s signature style.

Speaking about the track, Harrington explained, “The guitars have this offhanded virtuoso thing going. Seth had stacked all of these semi-improvised scratch tracks into a demo. When I got them, I was immediately drawn to the manic pile-up of using them all, all at once, with zero edits. It’s like if the solo from ‘Taxman’ wolfed down a bottle of Adderall.”

Accompanying the release is a meta music video that adds another layer of eccentricity to the band’s comeback.

During their hiatus, the members of Les Savy Fav pursued various endeavors, from building families to exploring new career paths. Harrington delved into writing and illustrating children’s books, while bassist Syd Butler continued to manage his record label, Frenchkiss Records, alongside guitarist Seth Jabour’s work on Late Night With Seth Meyers’ house band.

Reflecting on their return, Harrington expressed, “The band was never a job, so we can’t get fired and don’t have to quit. We had the time to figure out how to bring the people we’ve become and the people we are as artists together authentically. There’s a chaotic, untethered ecstasy at the center of the band’s universe. Squaring that with the desire to create stability and the need to endure some grind isn’t easy.”

Teasing their comeback with a series of one-off shows, including performances at European festivals and an intimate show at Knitting Factory NYC, Les Savy Fav is set to embark on a new chapter. The band will grace the UK and Ireland with two shows later this month, followed by a highly anticipated appearance at Primavera Sound in May.
