Lorde Makes An Appearance At The Met Gala In A Bold Suit
Lorde made a quietly commanding return to the red carpet Monday evening. The alt-pop diva stepped onto the 2025 Met Gala with her signature mix of restraint and rebellion.
Dressed in a custom grey ensemble by Thom Browne. Her look was a tailored skirt suit featuring a structured bandeau and sharp blazer draped nonchalantly over one shoulder. The New Zealand artist delivered a coolly cerebral interpretation of this year’s theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.

The rain may have dampened Fifth Avenue, but not Lorde’s sartorial poise. Her take on the “Tailored for You” dress code was as intellectually playful. At the same time, precise as was a nod to classic menswear filtered through her off-kilter, avant-pop sensibility.
Lorde and Her Comeback
Alongside the Met Gala, Lorde’s creative resurgence is making a louder noise. The “What Was That” singer recently opened up about her evolving sound in an interview with BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders, citing Charli XCX’s Brat as a catalytic influence on her upcoming record.
“I’d been kind of cooking this album up — we were quite a way into it — but Brat coming out really gave me a kick in a lot of ways,” Lorde explained. “It forced me to further define what I was doing because Charli had so masterfully defined everything about Brat.”
The two alt-pop powerhouses even collaborated on a remix, which Lorde described as creatively raw and invigorating. “It’s just this amazing thing when a peer throws the gauntlet down like that,” she said.
“I had been trying to express in this very naked way, and then Brat came out and she was kind of doing that from the other side of the coin… meeting her in that place of rugged vulnerability and cracking open the thing — people responded really well to that.”
Lorde’s reflective candor and genre-pushing instincts signal the start of a bold new chapter. If her Met Gala appearance is any indication, summer 2025 may well belong to her.
