Sam Fender Unveils “Iris,” A Poignant New Track from Jackdaw Film Soundtrack

Renowned musician Sam Fender has released “Iris,” a new track from the upcoming film Jackdaw soundtrack. This release is Fender’s first since his 2021 album ‘Seventeen Going Under’.

Debuted on Edith Bowman’s BBC Radio 2 show, “Iris” is lauded for its perfect fit with a moving scene in Jackdaw, set in Fender’s home region, the North East of the UK. The film, directed by Jamie Childs of Dr Who and The Sandman fame, marks a harmonious collaboration between cinema and Fender’s evocative music style.

The song, characterized by its soulful melody and understated guitar accompaniment, narrates the challenges of a woman in the North East. The simplicity of the arrangement allows Fender’s emotive vocals to take center stage, creating a powerful storytelling experience.

Jackdaw is an action-thriller that will premiere on January 26, after a special showing in Stockton-On-Tees on January 24. The film stars Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Jenna Coleman, and Rory McCann, amongst others, and is set against the gripping backdrop of Hartlepool and Teesside.

Fender’s recent performances include headline shows at major festivals and a landmark concert in Newcastle. As fans eagerly await his third album, Fender has hinted at a “singer-songwriter” feel, focusing on personal storytelling rather than stadium-filling anthems.

“Iris” marks a poignant addition to Fender’s discography, blending his signature musical style with cinematic storytelling and further cementing his status as a versatile and impactful artist in the music scene.
