Cardi B Mourns the Losses of San Diego Tragedy

The heartbreak of the catastrophe still takes over the people in the Dominican Republic; Cardi B joins those mourning the devastating collapse of the Jet Set nightclub roof. The tragedy took place in Santo Domingo at the moment. It took 66 lives and left more than 160 injured.

Cardi B has roots in the island through her Dominican father. Thus, the rapper took to Instagram to express her grief in a deeply personal message in her BG Secret Society community. Her words expressed sorrow and solidarity.

“I’m in literal tears scrolling down my timeline seeing my Dominican people being rescued — some with lives, and some gone,” she wrote. “I’m sad seeing families crying desperately in pain, looking for loved ones.”

Cardi Continues to Keep Spirits High

She continued, evoking the spirit of unity and prayer that often binds the Dominican community during times of loss. “I feel like every Dominican around the world is in a big Hora Santa, praying for survivors and praying for the ones that are gone to be in God’s Glory.”

Yet, Cardi B took a moment to call those who lost loved ones to remember them in joy, not sadness. “For the people who lost a family member or a friend, don’t hold bad memories. They left this earth singing and dancing — most likely happy and enjoying themselves. That’s how the Lord will receive them.”

One of those lives lost was merengue legend Rubby Pérez. The beloved singer, whose voice helped define generations of Caribbean music. He was reportedly performing a midnight set at Jet Set when the roof gave way roughly an hour into his show.

“It’s so heartbreaking to see one of our iconic artists, Rubby Pérez, leave in such a tragic way,” Cardi added. “I’m glad, though, our final memory of him was him sharing his beautiful voice with us. He sang one last time.”

In her message, she called on fans to lift up those affected.”I want my fans to pray for those who were in that building last night ❤️💙.”
