Chappell Roan Hits Pause on Fame Amid Intense Fan Scrutiny
Chappell Roan has decided to slow down her rise to fame following unsettling fan behavior that she describes as having “stalker vibes.” The pop star shared her concerns in a recent episode of the Comment Section podcast hosted by Drew Afualo. Roan expressed discomfort with how well some fans know her personal life, including details about her family.
Over the past year, Roan has quickly climbed the ranks of the music industry, gaining recognition with performances on Olivia Rodrigo‘s ‘Guts’ tour and standout shows at Coachella and Governors Ball. Despite her success, the intensity of her fans’ attention has made her reconsider her public visibility.
Chappell Roan recounted disturbing incidents, such as fans knowing where her family members live and work, which she had previously feared might lead her to step back from the limelight. “I’ve reached the point I always feared, where the safety of my family is in question,” she told Afualo, indicating her resolve to limit actions that would further increase her fame.
Her debut album, ‘The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess,’ released last September, received positive reviews for its sharp and playful lyrics. Roan continues to release music, with her latest single ‘Good Luck, Babe!’ hitting Number Four in the UK charts. It was even performed by Sabrina Carpenter on the BBC Live Lounge.
At this year’s Governors Ball in New York, her performance drew a massive crowd, documented by drone footage shared on Instagram. Roan, who creatively switched her stage costume from Lady Liberty to a yellow cab, premiered a new song titled ‘Subway.’ Additionally, she shared that she declined an invitation to perform at the White House for Pride, stating her conditions for acceptance: “We want liberty, justice, and freedom for all. When you do that, that’s when I’ll come.”
