Hozier Cancels His Shows Due to Health Conditions
After powering through this year’s Governors Ball, Hozier has officially hit pause on two upcoming shows. The singer is recovering from a virus that’s been plaguing him and members of his band.
The Irish singer-songwriter took to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, June 9, to announce the postponement. Hozier canceled shows in Camden, New Jersey, and Ridgedale, Missouri. Originally meant to take place from June 10 to June 12. So, he pushed to mid-July, taking time to rest. “The Camden show will now take place on July 15, and the Ridgedale show will take place on July 22,” he wrote. “All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new dates. Ticket holders will receive additional information via email.”
“Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause,” he added. “My June 15 show is still going ahead as planned. Much love.”
Hozier and Gov Ball Performance
The announcement followed his headline slot at Gov Ball on Sunday night. During the night, Hozier’s vocals remained strong despite the signs that he was under the weather. Though his performance largely landed, the singer didn’t shy away from acknowledging his condition mid-set. “For anybody who has never seen me before, I promise I sound at least 5% better on average,” he joked to the crowd. “I am haunted — I am stricken — by the specter of puberty one more time.”
Fans at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park were quick to offer support. Thus, surely, the singer returned with gratitude the next day.
“Thank you to @GovBallNYC for having me last night and to the crowd in NYC for being so kind while I struggled through this virus,” he posted, alongside snapshots from the show. “You gave me such a lift, so much love.”
The postponed gigs were part of a limited run of summer dates tied to Unreal Unearth, Hozier’s popular 2023 album. The artist has continued to build on that record’s world with follow-up releases, most recently Unreal Unearth: Unending, which dropped in December and offered fans expanded versions and fresh material from the same creative era.
While it’s clear the virus hit hard enough to sideline a couple of performances, Hozier’s commitment to showing up for fans, even at less than 100%. Thus, it only adds to the reason so many keep showing up for him.
